A clipping mask and opacity mask

A clipping mask is an object shaped mask artwork,
so that only the area located within the visible area of effect.
clipping mask and the objects in the mask is called a clipping set and marked by the dashed line in the Layers panel.
We can create a set of clipping from a choice of two or more objects or of all objects in the group or layer.


About Opacity mask, we used to use opacity masks and masking objects to change the transparency of the artwork.
opacity mask (also known as masked artwork) provides a form through another object.
Object masking define which areas are transparent and how many degrees of transparency.
We can use a colored object or raster image as the object of masking.
Illustrator using grayscale equivalents of color masking object to the level of opacity in the mask.

To make the opacity mask
Select an object or group, or the target layer in the Layers panel.
Double-click directly to the right of the thumbnail in the Transparency panel.
If the thumbnail is not visible, choose Show Thumbnail from the menu bar.

A mask blank is made and Illustrator are automatically entered mask-editing mode.
Use drawing tools to draw a mask shape.
Click on thumbnail masked artwork's thumbnail (left thumbnail) in the Transparency panel to come out of the mask-editing mode.
